The Twin Towers New Capital Egypt is a proposed project that aims to be the new capital city of Egypt. The project was announced by President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi in March 2015 and is expected to stretch over 86,000 acres of desert land east of Cairo, in the region between the Suez Canal and the Sinai Peninsula. The project is being developed by China State Construction Engineering Corporation and will comprise of a business district, government buildings, residential areas, universities, hospitals, hotels, and other facilities.
When completed, it will become the largest planned city in Egypt and one of the largest planned cities in the world. The project will also create an estimated 3 million jobs and contribute significantly to the economy of Egypt. It is expected to cost around $45 billion, with $14 billion coming from Egypt's budget, $9 billion from investors, and the remaining $22 billion coming from loans. It is also expected to have its own power grid, waste management systems, and desalination plants.
